Our people
Below are examples of the caliber person whom we encourage to apply:
Susan is a 22 year old woman who studied New Media Publishing in her freshman year at college. She transferred to the University of Wisconsin where she became the president of the Non-Profit Management Club. After graduating she took several graduate courses in publishing, then did a one year internship at a non-profit organization. She then took a course in grant writing, and is considering getting a degree in non-profit management. Her personal life challenge is a hearing impairment which makes being in small groups difficult, but she has found ways to deal effectively with those situations.
As a paid fellow, Susan will be helping with the publications for ItsWhosOnTheBusThatCounts.org, and her vote for the first group project is to establish a national headquarters for kayaking for paraplegics at the ocean side facility made available by one of the founders. She will also be funded by ItsWhosOnTheBusThatCounts.org to provide her grant writing skills to other start-up non-profits who couldn’t afford her services at this time. She intends to continue her employment at ItsWhosOnTheBusThatCounts.org for 3-5 years while she adds to her education and skills, and, eventually, to start her own non-profit company.
Paul is a 25 year old man who graduated from University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and is studying part time to get a Masters in Education. To help support himself at this time he is working for a local farmer to help deliver and sell his vegetables at a local farmers market. He also works as a volunteer at the YMCA, which he has been doing since middle school, tutoring indigent children in mathematics. He is a vegetarian, and has been active in the animal rights movement, with particular interest in the conditions in which factory farm animals are housed. He played on school basketball and tennis teams, and hopes to found a company working with children with neurological disorders on their athletic skills to the point where they can enjoy various athletic activities. Paul overcame a right sided hemi-paresis that required him to learn how to use his right arm step by step over several years. He eventually honed his skills to the point of being a college varsity player in two sports.
He plans to work ten hours per week at ItsWhosOnTheBusThatCounts.org. His vote for a group project with all the members of the organization is to establish an ocean side property donated by one of the founders as a headquarters for kayaking for people with paraplegia. He will also be funded by ItsWhosOnTheBusThatCounts.org to help other start-up non-profit organizations with their budgets and financial planning in their grant proposals. He looks forward to developing his skills, knowledge and contacts while working at ItsWhosOnTheBusThatCounts.org for the next 3-5 years, to the point where, in addition to teaching, he is positioned to be the director of his own company.
